Here are a few other ideas that we came up with as to where you can go if you’re looking to check out a few of the more interesting areas in Panama. What are you interested in? That’s what we’ll be basing our next three entries on! “Adventure travel ?”
Nature- Darien’s Province
There are all sorts of wonderful sites in this little known area in Panama. If you’re looking for beautiful wildlife or are just out to catch a breath of fresh air, this is the absolutely perfect area for you! However, you will need to understand that the only way that you’re going to make it in is by plane and you’ll need to talk with a tour guide or tour group, as this area is extremely secluded and the chances of you going in and finding your way around is slim. So, contact a guide tour group beforehand or check it out
Ecuador is off the typical tourist track but still presents multiple vacation options. The Pacific Coast provides relaxing beaches while the Amazon allows for combining ecotourism with active sports from hikes to whitewater rafting/kayaking in Tena. Lastly, for history buffs, both Quito’s old town and Cuenca give a glimpse into Ecuador’s colonial past.
“New places to travel”
Eclipsed by higher profile South American tourist destinations, such as Chile, Argentina, and Brazil, Ecuador borders on Colombia and Peru. It is a relatively small country, approximately the size of the US state of Colorado. Notwithstanding the latter, Ecuador, with eleven national parks, has varied terrain from its western coast to rainforest and majestic mountain peaks/volcanoes, including well-known Cotopaxi and Tungurahua. As to indoor activities, besides museums and architectural sites, for those who like to shop, Ecuador, the home of the “Panama” hat, offers an array of goods to purchase from silver and leather to local handicrafts.
An Andean nation, Ecuador’s capital, Quito, was one of the original UNESCO World Heritage Sites. At more than 9,000 feet above sea

If you love to travel, but your bank account doesn’t quite agree, it may be a good idea to look at how you can travel for cheaper. Though consumerism has driven the majority of our ideas of travel to super expensive hotels and resorts, it’s actually quite possible to pay less for travel. Not only can you pay less to travel in your country of origin, but also overseas. All it takes is a little bit of planning, skill, and sacrifice to make sure that you get to experience the life you want for less.
While five star travel experiences have their time and place in the world, this just isn’t the case when you want to travel to learn more about culture, have awesome experience, and eat great food. This is because when you travel overseas, you’re probably not intending to live the life of the stars, but of the people who live there, and many foreign countries have lower costs of living that in the United States. Looking at your expenses, and making sure that you plan a cheap trip (with alternates just in case of emergency) is the best way to save money
Finding the right travel agency in Cuba can be a great way to make your trip to this country a memorable and pleasant experience. The local agents know in details the situation in the country, procedures and regulations, they can help with getting a visa, find the cheapest airfare, etc.
Despite numerous political problems that the country was so rich in, Cuba remains one of the most visited tourist destinations in the Caribbean Sea. Hundreds of thousands of tourists from around the world come to Cuba every year, attracted by its warm climate, beautiful sea, the island’s rich history and the famous Cuban cigars.
Havana is located in the northwest of the island. It is known for the magnificent mansions and the buildings in the style of developing socialism. The city has a lot of cutting-edge skyscrapers just opposite to the numerous dilapidated houses. Grandiose hotels in the coastal area of the city and numerous churches contribute to the general tourist outlook of the city.
The historic core of the city is Old Havana, located around the port and Havana Bay. It is a narrow strait into
Having traveled to 55 countries, I wanted to finish seeing all 50 US states by making a visit to the Dakotas. As classic movie fans will recall, the region’s most famous film, Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest, had spell-binding footage (enhanced by Hollywood sets): Cary Grant hung off the side of a rocky cliff and dashed down the face of Mt. Rushmore hotly pursued by a team of gun-toting villains. In real life, Mt. Rushmore and South Dakota’s Black Hills provide a lot of entertainment options but fortunately not involving such death-defying feats.
Although most local sights are open year-round, I recommend a visit from spring to fall unless you like touring in cold weather. The only downside I found was that it was not easy to get there. From Washington, DC, the best flights overshot the Plains States arriving in Denver and then flew back eastward to Rapid City. (In journeying on to Bismarck, North Dakota, I had to retrace my steps again going westward to Denver and then back eastward.)
Coming from the largely industrialized, densely populated, hilly East, my first impression was of the flat terrain, the

If you are searching for some exotic photographic locations, then consider visiting the travel-friendly countries of South America might meet your search. Of the many, you can think about making a trip to Ecuador and its neighboring country, Peru. Ecuador is bordered by Peru on the east and south and both the countries serve as ultimate destinations for photographers in the continent.
Many people with limited vacation time look forward to have Ecuador and Peru travel at one. If you are among them and are planning to explore the best attractions in these countries, then take a look at the following tourist locations where you can enjoy extensive photography of natural and man-made wonders:
• Ecuadorian Amazon
The eastern part of Ecuador is covered with Amazon rainforests which is home to innumerable varieties of flora and fauna. While walking across the dense jungle areas you will spot multi-hued birds and butterflies. You will frequently come across mammals like Saddle-back Tamarins, Brown Capuchins, monkeys, bears, capybaras, manatees etc.
• The Galapagos Islands.
The islands in the Galapagos archipelago are visual retreat for
Biosphere 2 is in disarray. The three-acre glass and steel structure 20 miles north of Tucson on Arizona Highway 77 is still one of the technological wonders of the world, but it has fallen on hard times since the University of Arizona took it over a year ago. Built in the late ’90s at a cost of $150 million by entrepreneur and environmentalist Ed Bass, it first served as the world’s largest closed-loop life support system, simulating what life might be like in a human colony on Mars. Today, it is a U of A propaganda mill, but it’s still worth taking the $20 tour. Tours “under the glass” run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Catch the last tour before 3 p.m. Be forewarned that the adventure requires some physical agility. Visitors climb stairs, duck through low passageways, and step through airlocks.
Before tours, which run for about 1.5 hours, participants watch a 10-minute documentary about the history and current ownership of Biosphere 2. There are some errors, most notable of which is the identification of ownership. CDO Ranching of Tucson no longer owns Biosphere 2,
Having one largely forgotten Scottish ancestor but always looking for new destinations, I traveled to Scotland for a brief introduction. I quickly learned during a week’s stay that there was much more to explore than just bagpipes and sites with colorful names like the Firth of Forth.
Navigating Edinburgh on arrival was easy. Towing my roller-bag, I easily found the four star bed and breakfast which I had booked. It was not in the historic part of the city but in the modern “New Town”, ironically a contemporary of America’s earliest history.
Edinburgh was filled with Scotland’s past from the Wallace Monument to the Royal Mile, Palace of Holyrood and Royal Chapel. For those of us non-royals, St. Giles Cathedral awaited. Easy to overlook was the small stone in front which is the Heart of Midlothian. Observing the custom (spitting on it when passing by) was the ancient way to show contempt for authority and the sheriff of olden days.
Edinburgh Castle had one addition not often found in castles, a dog cemetery. As in England, dogs have long been man’s best friend in Scotland. Everywhere in
Reading today that a 24-year old Chilean saxophonist just won the Monk International Jazz Competition took me back in time to my trip to Santiago and points south. While having only a small percentage of the world’s population, Chile has produced global figures in the arts, including two Nobel Prize winning poets: Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda.
Just getting to Chile was part of the adventure. When I arrived at the airport in Washington, there was a flight delay because of bad weather. After about 4 hours in the gate, we were allowed to board. Then it was announced the winds had shifted and the plane could not take off. I returned home for the night and started out again the next day. High over the Andes once again bad weather intervened requiring that we land in Argentina. At last, we arrived in Santiago!
Chile demonstrates the rich differences within the South American continent. Although much of the region shares a common language and a 16th century colonial history, after O’Higgins and San Martin led Chile to independence in the 19th century, it has created its own modern history.
Australia stands out to me as a really top destination after traveling to 55 countries. Having booked a 5 star hotel on Sydney Harbor, I was pleasantly surprised when I checked in. My view of the Opera House was front and center. It was so close it looked like I was perched on the roof. Within two hours of checking in, I was off in a minivan for a half-day tour.
Although the Sydney Opera House is the most photographed sight, there is one older symbol of the city: the Harbor Bridge. It looms high above the skyline. The brave-at-heart can take a long trek across the very top. One local guide recounted how he and his elderly mother had harnessed up and taken the tour together. For the rest of us, there were plenty of other options closer to street level: from the Quay, Darling Harbor, the Parliament House, the Sydney Zoo, St Mary’s Cathedral to Mrs. Macquarie’s Point & Chair or just strolling through the city’s local parks and sampling numerous nearby restaurants.
Of course as a first time tourist in Australia, kangaroo sightings were high on my
Knysna is a lovely area located on Africa’s ‘Garden Route.’ The garden route is one of Africa’s main locations for travelers and stretches along South Africa’s Coast. Knysna is located between the Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean. Knysna’s name is thought to derive from the Khio word for ‘straight down.’
This name reflects Knysna lagoon’s steep monoliths, appropriately called ‘The Heads.’ Knysna has a mild Mediterranean Maritime climate that ensures year-round greenness and impressive flora and fauna. It is a great vacation location for travelers looking for vacations out of the ordinary.
Traveling in Knysna
There are myriad activities to enjoy in Knysna, from exploring its blue lagoon to hiking in its Tsitsikamma National Park area. Travel is easy; you can rent a car, take a taxi, walk around, or rent bikes. Keep in mind, however, that during high tourist seasons, traffic can be bad, so you’re better off going with any of the other options.
Knysna has multiple golf courses, shops and cafes, all near the amazingly blue lagoon at the center of Knysna. One of the
In anticipation of my upcoming trip to Ottawa next weekend I have started to do some research and contacted Ottawa Tourism. Ottawa, as Canada’s capital, is one of Canada’s most popular travel destinations and it has a great variety destinations, activities and events to offer.
I had an opportunity to talk with Jantine Van Kregten from Ottawa Tourism who was kind enough to give me a great general overview of things to see and do in Ottawa.

Ottawa enjoys four distinct seasons, with warmest temperatures and sometimes high humidity in July and August; a temperate fall with gorgeous fall colours;
